What You Can Expect
Exploring the Argyle Church of Christ – Anticipating Our Time Together
Interested in what awaits you if you visit the Argyle Church of Christ in its various meetings?
There are Bible Classes on Sunday and mid-week, youth events, film series of Bible studies, recovery groups, men’s breakfasts, LIFE Groups (small groups who meet in homes throughout the city on Sunday evenings) and, of course, our worship assembly times – all present opportunities to introduce you to the Argyle church family and help you formulate a relationship with God.
Should you show up in what people normally consider “church” on Sunday mornings, there will be singing by the church – interestingly, without instruments or even a formal choir – you can sit and listen or join in – there will be various occasions of prayer, suitable to the moment, led by a mature disciple – public reading of brief passages of Scripture - the church may have a responsive role that day, of it may just listen and read along with the reader.
The Lord’s Supper
“The Lord’s Supper” will occur on Sunday mornings at every assembly of the whole church. This is a symbolic, token meal that is designed to cause us to “remember Jesus” and remind us of his presence with us.
It signifies the forgiveness of sins won for us by Jesus and communicates the love God has for us in redemption. The unleavened bread and “fruit of the vine” (grape juice or “wine”) are distributed to the church, and we observe an open communion. That means, if you consider yourself a disciple of Jesus, there is no fellowship test for you to pass in order to “take communion.” You are welcome to participate or to pass the trays on, as you choose. The small piece of bread and the wine represent for us the body and blood of Jesus, and commemorate Jesus in his humanity of service and his death on our behalf.

There will also be a formal teaching time with a lesson, or sermon. Some portion of Scripture will be focused to show God’s actions for us and the response he calls us to make. The teaching time is kingdom oriented, meaning that God is in charge of how we live. He is making us over to be what he intends, showing us in the person of Jesus what that looks like, and God is helping us to be that with his Spirit.
There are other moments and means to discover the Argyle Church of Christ. Bible classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings are informal, sometimes interactive, encourage questions and are geared to different levels of maturity. During the year there are ladies’ retreats off site, a men’s softball team, beach devotionals, workdays, and several other events which you are welcome and invited to be part of.
We have staff ministers, elders, deacons, mature men and women disciples who will answer questions and explore your participation in “Body Life” at the Argyle Church of Christ.
